Chapter 3
- In chapter one, Nick states that he will become well acquainted with Jordan (this evolves in the third paragraph)
- They spend the entire night at Gatsby's together, until Gatsby requests to speak with Jordan alone
- The third chapter focuses on introducing the other’s perception of Gatsby's character
- Nick is too smart to believe the stories that others tell him
- He doesn't want to be his friend for his money, or to uncover the truth, he simply wants a genuine friendship
- Nick's feelings at the end of chapter 3 contradict his actions at the end of chapter 2 (the implied ending of chapter 2)
- However he refrains from loving Jordan but he did not refrain from Mr. Wilson. This could imply that Nick is more enticed by men than women
