Chapter 2
- Nick Carraway describes women as if they are insignificant in comparison to a male; this judgment, based on the time period, coincides with the thoughts of men in the 1920's
- Tom buys Myrtle, supposedly his mistress, a puppy (giving her enough money to buy ten more). Tom also hits Myrtle. These actions insinuate that their relationship is solely based on money and sex.
- Mr. Wilson is more interested in males than in females, which is not uncommon for men because they have more in common with other males than with females, but it is interesting is that he has no desire to take nude pictures of the woman.
- Nick seems to focus on the physical attributes of men in a positive manner while women are perceived in a less physical idea, thus contrasting the social norms of the time.
